From the recording In The Afterlife Of Promises
A man travels to Egypt expecting wonder but instead finds greed, over-tourism, filth and a fading sense of pride, turning the desert into a crowded, degrading spectacle. Falling “down on the floor,” he watches the grandeur of the ancient world being smothered by quick money, human waste and a profound lack of respect for the land and its people. But Egypt is only the setting: the desert is really the world itself, and apparently our grand contribution to civilization is to crowd every beautiful place, monetize it, trash it, and then complain that nothing feels magical anymore.
Lyrics
I went on a trip to Egypt
Looked into the future of mankind
Well I got mugged and I got ripped
The cheap greed of it all blew my mind
I wonder how they built them pyramids
While now they can’t seem to make a straight wall
Ugly souvenirs and no toilet lids
All testimonies of a rapid downfall
And I fell down, down, down on the floor
No the desert ain’t a lonely place anymore
And if you think you see a beautiful place
It’s so crowded it becomes a disgrace
Full of human garbage and full of filth
They kill their country without any guilt
And I fell down, down, down, down on the floor
No the desert ain’t a lonely place anymore
No the desert ain’t a lonely place anymore
Making quick money is all they care about
Seems they all have a lifelong burnout
There’s no pride or self-respect to be found
All that’s left is dried up burial ground
And I fell down, down, down on the floor
No the desert ain’t a lonely place anymore
And I fell down, down, down, down on the floor
No the desert ain’t a lonely place anymore
No the desert ain’t a lonely place anymore
