A seemingly proud narrator brags about how “good” and “sweet” life is in his cozy little nation, while casually listing murders, child deaths by reckless driving, and brutal sexual violence he can get away with thanks to connections, hate and greed. The song is a vicious piece of dark satire, exposing a society where respectability and neat streets mask a culture of impunity, corruption and dehumanization. I wrote this a long time ago, horrified by the cases of missing children, children abused by the Church, and the many young lives casually destroyed on our roads.

Lyrics

In my country, life is so good
Cozy and small, like one big neighborhood

I can park my car wherever I want and let it stay all day
I can shoot someone through the head whenever he’s in my way
I can drive two hundred an hour without any problem at all
I can kill a child or two that way and still have a ball

Connections and hate is all I need
A little blackmail maybe, some money and a lotta greed

In my country, life is so good
In my country, life is so sweet
In my country

In my country, life is so sweet
Tidy and neat, just like a perfect street

I can drug some young girls and take them with me in a van
I can rape, hit or sell them and really feel like a man
I can lock them up in a trunk and forget to give them food
I can put them into the ground and still be in a fine mood

Connections and hate is all I need
A little blackmail maybe, some money and a lotta greed

In my country, life is so good
In my country, life is so sweet
In my country
In my country
