From the recordings Shuttered Memories and Echoes Of An Empty Street
This song tells the story of two boys navigating a desolate cityscape, where innocence and sorrow intertwine. Despite the weight of despair and the bleakness of their surroundings, they carry a shared light, pressing on with hope and resilience. In the silence of the empty streets, their unspoken bond drives them forward, determined to find meaning amidst the decay.
The song is based on the cover, a photograph taken by my father in the sixties of the previous century.
Lyrics
Echoes Of An Empty Street
Two boys with worn faces, hands wrapped in the cold
Tugging on strings that lead to nowhere, their stories untold
In the distance, the fog hugs the quiet of the town
Here they go, unbroken, though life keeps them down
Two boys on a journey, through dust and despair
But together they walk, like they haven’t a care
Oh, the echoes of an empty street
Where innocence and sorrow meet
Through the dust and the grime, they carry the light
Two souls in the darkness, ready to fight
They imagine their daymares, like kites with no wings
The wind sings and blows away forgotten things
The world may be broken, but they press on with grace
In the cracks of the pavement, they try to survive, find their place
The road stretches onward, but they never feel lost
For their dreams pull them forward, no matter the cost
Oh, the echoes of an empty street
Where innocence and sorrow meet
Through the dust and the grime, they carry the light
Two souls in the darkness, ready to fight
Through the filth and the silence, with hope in their eyes
They chase the skies, while no one ever replies
In the breaches of the city, they try to find their own way
Two boys and their shadows, in the downtown’s decay
No words between them, just the hum of a breeze
And the sound of their footsteps, like whispers through trees
As the sun sets slowly, they carry on through the gray
With nothing but each other, and the weight of the day
Oh, the echoes of an empty street
Where innocence and sorrow meet
In the mirrors of silence, they’ll write their own song
Two boys in the struggle, but together they're strong
